Agronomic Intern

What you will learn:

• The basics of corn and soybean small plot research trials.
  • Planter operation
  • Experimental design
  • Plot navigation
  • Crew management for Data collection on emergence, net effective stand, plant and ear height, root lodging and green snap.
  • Fungicide and herbicide application
  • Plot maintenance- signage, weed management, plot staking and tagging.
  • Understand the basics of commercial corn and soybean traits.
• A snapshot into agronomy
  • Collect tissue samples from production fields to track plant health.
  • Complete net effective stands on production fields.
  • Attend a few service calls with agronomist to diagnose grower issues.
  • Diagnose diseases and stresses in real life situations.

Skills we are looking for:

• A passion for agriculture
• Willingness to learn
• Open to new opportunities
• Ability to manage a small crew of teenagers for data collection.
• Can take directions easily and be able to work independently.
• Willing to obtain an Illinois Pesticide License prior to employment.
• Can work overtime hours and start early mornings to avoid hot periods of the day.
• Can handle adverse environments.
